Which return pump

Hi guys,
I am setting up a 180 gal with a 75 gal sump underneath. I am not sure if I should go with a Sequence Dart or a Gen-X Mak4 for my return though. The dart would be running about 1700 gph with head loss and the Gen-X about 1000 gph after head loss. What would you guys go with? I was originally planning on the Dart but I'm thinking it may be too much?

Hey travis, have you set up a large tank like this before? Reason I ask is that 1000+ gph through the return is a lot in my experience. I have a 150 with a 60 gallon sump, and I only push about 450 gph. Typically it's better to use powerheads or CLS for flow in the display, and relying on the return for water movement can create some problems.

Thanks for the reply. No, this the first tank I have setup of this size, thats why I'm not sure. I talked to one guy that I feel knows what he's talking about thats using a Dart for his return, but I don't know how his is setup. I know that too much flow through the sump is bad which is why I was looking at the Mak4. What pump would you suggest? It needs to be quiet because it's in my living room.

I'm thinking a mag 9.5 would be more than enough in this system. Just my opinion.

I'm running an external pump, the sump has been drilled as I was set on the Dart before I thought more about it. I don't want to run a mag external, but I'll look for a similar rated pump. Thanks

I'm not super experienced with external pumps, but I know the velocity pumps are very well reputed. Maybe the T1 or T2? Another option would be eheim, the 1260 or 1262. Though the eheim can be run internal or external.
