Thanks for the words of encouragment ,
I spent many years planning this and keeping other large tanks , I have a 1500 gallon right now , Iam well aware of what humith can do and how to deal with it , not form ideas or what others say but from frist hand experiance and testing , Ive tried HRVs , Big hrvs , seperate heating and cooling systems from teh house , dehumification , they are all worthless as far as iam concerned .
The only way to deal with it right is to seal off teh tank from the rest of teh house , Iam mean seal it off were no air can move betewwn them , Iam using sparyed foam unsulation with a sparyed on vapor barrier and teh covering all the walls on the main floor with FRP board with teh joints seal with silicon for expansion and contraction , The walls below are all epoxy coverd concret .
There is a set of inake louvers that allow air to come in from outside , On teh opiste wall there is a plastic blower to remov eteh humid are , thsi will run all of teh time , hot or cold out . This is teh only way to remove teh humity in teh long terem , mechical ways like AC and dehudifier will just corrode in a matter of week in this enviroment .

First of, thanks for sharing such an abitious project with us. Your "buck stops here attitude" is really the only way to go about this project. For the so called experts, designing and building a 1500 gal tank is the extent of their knowledge anyways--and you've already done that--so you are one of the experts.
I'm like you--I'd rather do something myself than have someone else do it for me. But in my case it's not because I'm a perfectionist, it's
because I'm cheap--I'll settle for something less than perfection if I can save a ton of money.
Anyways, you're only getting a tank 10X bigger than your current one--isn't it really the same as going from a 10 gal nano to a 110 gal?
Anyways, I'm only an hour away from Chicago so when you are ready to start putting the rock in there--give me a call! Hell, I'll even supply all the beer just to be able to help!

very nice bill . all i can say about your atitude , is its nice to know i'm not the only out there like that ! i do believe the word my family and friends like to use is "anal" !
its alot easier to fix mistakes when you built it yourself , and not fixing someone elses blunders .
looking forward to the progress .

I'm originally from Wisconsin, so I know what the weather is like. How are you going to keep the tank warm in January and February with air being pulled in from outside? I've no doubt you've got that figured out, but being a former cheesehead I'm interested in the solution.

just an FYI that is bill talking there. its not some one else saying they are bill. bill has no time for spell check. he is too busy keeping his business going strong and fighting with carpenters that cant do there jobs right. the concrete work that was done in the pool room is so bad that it has to be done over. along with a ton of other things that are messed up with the construction of the house.
as to the tank. its looking awesome! i would have had pictures of the tank but when i grabbed my camera i didnt look to see if there was a memory card in it. so no pictures. yes yes i know my bad.
the one thing i will say is bill has a vision like no other. this tank will be unbeliveable once it has some time to grow out and get stocked. the final inside dementions of the tank ended up being a little smaller that i had thought but not much. the total tank volume not including all the sumps and support equiptment will end up being just over 10,000 gallons in the tank. with the sumps and support equiptment it will be about 20,000 gallons. give or take a few hundred gallons here and there. lol
i was over at the old house visiting fred the orange rimmed tank. he is now about7-9 lbs and fat as a cow! i think if you put a serving platter next to him he is bigger that the platter. he deffenatly needs to be in a bigger tank. the 1500 gallon tank he is currently in is way too small for him. but for now he is fat and happy. i still cant wait to go swimming with fred. he is not afraid of anyone. he eats right out of my hand. i have to head down bills way in 2-3 weeks and will have my cammera then. including the chip for it. by then the tank should be sealed and the vewing pannels should be ready to install or already installed. then its getting the plumbing and overflows installed and getting the rock in the tank. that alone will take some time.

Yeah, I can vouch for Spazz- that's Bill and he's not worried about spelling or grammar as much as in raw communication of his massive ideas. I'm a fan (for a while!) of this project and somehow I knew that Bill would be doing all the finish work on this house as well as aquarium himself. It's not onlybetter to do your own work if you know how , it's more fun!
Spazz. I'm sending you a memory card, man!
Glad to see there're some new postings. Spazz, any idea how Bill's going to lay out the rock? Has he got a sketch? is he going to attach it? Suspend it? wrap it around pipe?
Keep up the great work guys!

Awesome, awesome, awesome!
Kudos to you Bill!
I can totally relate to your "do-it-myself perfectionist" attitude. I grew up spending alot of my time with my Dad working on projects/jobs of all kinds. He was a jack of all trades and a perfectionist too (especially trim carpentry). I sure learned a lot from him and some of it even rubbed off on me.
Keep up the great work!

not to spoil your image of bill but he works for his money just like me and you. he has had alot of time to make his money and build up his business. he has been doing this for over 10 years. he does not have a silver spoon. his family is your average small town working class people that work very hard for what they have. so please dont think that way about him. he is just like me and you, just thinks alot bigger. ha ha ha ha ha
