bill is 5 hrs away from me so getting down there is not easy. but i do have a trip planned for the 2nd week in may. i plan to take more pics then. the weather should be good enough to take lots of pics. by then bill might have more done to the tank. i know its tough to sit there waiting for months for updates but this tank and house take a long time to build.

no problem, please take some time when you have a moment to go into the filtration with some more detail.

right now that is some what still up in the air. bill still cant decide if he wants to install 2 very large skimmers or 4-6 smaller skimmers like the one he has now. that will be the bulk of the filtration system. he may install a sulfer denitrator if needed but i expect the skimmers to be enough for the bio load he plans on having. i may alos have bill look into the italian way of feeding using the sugar methoid for better skimming and reduced phosphates and nitrates. this is all speculation on my part right now because i have not talked to bill in over a month. he works till 5pm and then puts in a full night at the new house doing electrial or other stuff. one of these days i will get ahold of him and get some more hard facts.

For some reason, I feel like a cluster of "smaller" skimmers might be the way to go- at some point there might be an efficiency fall off on the super large skimmers with their large throats. What do you think?

as long as you get the dwell time correct and the air to water ratio where it needs to be then the only other thing you need to worry about is the turbulance inside the skimmer main chamber. the bigger the main chamber the easier it is to mellow out the turbulance inside the main chamber. so there is some benifits to going bigger. i have seen that with energys skimmer and bills skimmer. smaller is not always the way to go.
in the end it all depends on bill and wht he plans to build for his system. he already has 4 24" diameter 4 ft tall main tubes if he wants to go with smaller skimmers. or its just a matter of having 36" diam main tubes made for larger skimmers. but the dwell tiem of an 8 ft tall main chamber that is 36" in diam will be able to remove alot more desolved organics because they will have twice the dwell time in the vertical direction let alone the circular dwell time. it would take 6 skimmers the size of bills current skimmer to equal the volume of 2 skimmers that are 36" diam and 12 ft tall.
