any active swimming shark, ie a black tip or white tip, needs a 70+ foot length to achieve a burst, rest / glide / recovery, swimming pattern. without this the sharks life span is severly shortened to less than 2 years. baby black tips cost over 1g as well. a cat type shark, ie a banded bamboo shark, would make a fine companion in the tank and as long as you feed them regularly they will leave even the tiniest of critters alone. this is from personal experience as well.

well i got bck from my trip to chicago on wed and have not had time to post pics of discriptions of bills house and tank. i hope to have tiem this weekend to update everyone on what i had seen there and what bill's general plans are for the system. its unreal to see a tank that size in person. to walk around inside the tank is even more unreal. there is not alot going on with the tank right now because of the weather and the house is not heated yet. there still installing windows and doors. once those are in then bill will start the monsterous task of wireing the entire house. after that is done then he can work on the tank because the insulation will be installed and the heat can be turned on so the tank can get worked on. i have been talking with bill about some new skimmers for his system. once we get the final designs down we will share them with the group. the current 24" diam skimmer he has and the other 4 like it will be run on different parts of the system or just sold. we did how ever do a small upgrade to his current skimmer while i was there. i will post pics later this weekend of that upgrade.

Hey Spazz,
When you get up to a skimmer that's 24" diameter, how thick is the tubing that you're using for it?

for a skimmer that size i recomend using 3/8" acrylic. that is what bill is using and that is what i used on energys 24" skimmer.

sorry guys i know im slacking. my camera chip is at the shop with all the pics on it. i will try to rember to bring it home tomorrow. there is not much new at this time because the builders are concentrating on the main house and getting the doors and windows in. then its getting the electrial done so the heating and plumbing can be run. once that is complete then bill can start work on the inside of the tank. i have ot go down past his house some time in mid april and o hope to have some better updates that show just how big that tank really is. i plan to bring the tri pod so i can take a pic of me and bill standing inside the tank at the same time. that will give a person a good idea of just how big this tank really is. the pictures just dont show that very well.

spazz - great work on the thread looking forward to following it, and seeing that skimmer you and bill will build!
If I had a tank this size (someday ) I would seriously consider forming multiple harems/schools of fish. Many fairy wrasse, anthias, tangs, angel harems (watanabe/bellus/or even maybe some pygmy angels) I would take a large harem or school over a shark anyday (which i also think isnt the best idea)
The stingrays would be interesting. I like Stans in his tank. they behave themselves usually if they are well fed
Looking good!

Unless Bill's going the Doctor Evil route and wants to feed his nosey neighbors to the sharks-- all the while monologuing on how they borrowed his tools and never returned them--- Muuu ha ha haaaa...
