the tank is 8 feet deep. bill will have to dive into the tank to clean the acrylic panes and to do sand sifting and cleaning we normally do from outside the tank with a siphon hose.
the tank is sitting on the ground level of the house. there is a basement below the tank. the view you see there is from the living room. there will be no TV's or any other electronics in the room. it will strictly be a living room with an ocean view.

Spazz, just thinking Bill might want to line the space above the tank with Wonderboard and tile or something REAL waterproof,
in order to keep the splashing from cannonballs, etc. from rotting the framing
and/or drywall one would usually use.
I can't wait to see this thing finished. Sorry there's not going to be natural sun lighting, or has he changed his mind on that?
Awesome stuff all around.

THats AWSOME! Almost floor to ceiling tank. This is going to be very impressive. Thanks for keeping the pics coming.
I think, if i remember right, he went with 2 plexi panels instead of 1 because of cost, and the fact that the begger panel would have to be placed during construction. Tooo big to get threw the house after completion.
Please correct me if i'm wrong.

20,000 to 25,000 lbs of rock and about 8,000 to 10,000 lbs of sand is what the general plan is right now. the problem we are having right now is finding the sand. its hard to find that much sea flor grade sand and then it will be one heck of a job to clean it all. i think bill plans to rent a plastic cement mixer and then just let the water run into the mixer to clean out all the dust from the sand. it will make for one heck of a mess. ha ha ha

If I remember correctly, the things Sandbed mentioned about the panels are correct. Installability of the panels, cost, and also distortion. I think the size Bill chose is one of the absolute largest sheets that is actually a standard size, Spartech or whoever actually has a mold that big lying around. To go with a single panel it would have meant a custom form (maybe 10X the cost of the two separate panels?). The distortion factor is the one other thing Sandbed didn't mention, the two panels are already 3 inches thick, and if you get much thicker than that the only clear view you would have is straight in, any angles would look fuzzy.
