Skimmer shopping

I am not really partial to anything at this point although i run a MR-2 w pcx 55 on my 90 BB sps tank with only 6 inches of fish in it, one of them being a mandarin. To be honest that skimmer could handle that tank 6 times over i believe.

But i REALLy want to know what the people who have tanks over 200 gallons are using for a skimmer.

I would love it if you would chime in with what kind of skimmers you use and why you like them.

thx

the tank i want it for is going to be 224 gallon DSB LPS/predatorial fish tankwith a 100 gallon sump. No fuge, just macroalgae, hardware and water in the sump.

I use a Precision Marine XL2. It is rated at 750 gallons. I was looking for a brand name skimmer that was rated for about double my volume. When I saw the XL2 for sale at 1/2 price, I jumped on it. I haven't used a recirc-needlewheel skimmer, but I can tell you that a beckett with pull out the gunk.

I'm getting ready to setup a 500g for a client and am considering an EV-1200 What's everyone's thoughts on it or an AquaMedic T5000 Baby or Single. Or any other suggestions would be appreciated.

Dont know about the EV. I have heard mixed on the Aquamedics leaning in the direction of positive. I had a small Aquamedic Multi as my first skimmer and didnt like it at all. I have heard who do though.
One of the main reasons I like MRC products besides the quality of the materials and assembly is the fact that they can be upgraded to handle a larger system. This is a big plus in my book.

I have had the EV-240 on my 180g for years and I am very pleased with it. Sorting through opinions on skimmers is tough, though, because there are no hard and fast ways to measure performace.

For anyone who cares...i ended up going with a ASM G4+. I went with it for reasons that it seemed the be the most hands off skimmer (and i wanted to keep it in the 100 gallon sump)and being as i dont overstock fish in any way, it will perform more than adequately for the 300 gallon total system it is going in.
