My new tank

I started thinking about this tank in August of 2003. Real designs starting meeting paper in October and it got wet in February 2004.

This tank sets almost in the middle of my (25' x 25') great room. One end of the tank is sunk into the wet room that was built after putting the tank in place. The stand and hood were finished and integrated after the wet room was built.

The wet room ended up being much bigger than the original diagram and the tank is further in the middle of the room.

Anyway, I took pictures all along the way, and I'll post them here in this thread...

For those with high bandwidth, here is a movie I shot of the tank shortly after setting it up. It's just a teaser as I won't get to "finished" images again for a while.

http://www.saltyzoo.com/new/040410/tank-tour.htm

The tank is 300 gallons with a 100 gallon sump. It is 8' x 3'x 20". The tank is sunk 9" into the wetroom in order to hide the overflow and return plumbing.

You can see shots of the tank as it is today on this thread: http://thereeftank.com/forums/showthread.php?t=37837

Here's the overflow designs.

I started with 2 2" bulkheads....

Then added four more....

But in the end, settled on just four:

I decided not to have any holes outside the overflow. All closed loop plumbing is done by using "hooks".

thats really neat!, I have a similliar idea for the large tank I orderred except the tank will be against the wall w/ 2 corner overflows, and the closet is a DBL closet behind the tank, it used to be for the furnace but now we have AC on top of the house.....

To determine exactly where I wanted to place the tank I used a PVC frame....

The view from the dining room.

Nice pad.

Looks cool. How are you for space in the wet room?.

Are those double doors your front entry? If so, that is an awesome welcome into the home.

On to the stand.... I had the stand built by the owner of my LFS who has built more stands than I could count. I decided that I'd rather have someone that can do it perfect the first time do it than take a chance of me making a mistake. I'm ok at carpentry, and I've built stands before, but this one I wanted perfect.

Awesome tank Greg! I am planning a walk around 135 tank, I just wish it was wider so it would be easier to aquascape. The clownfish in the video is hillarious.

I am supprised how basic and simple that stand is, it looks solid, but simple and just 2X4's

Nice looking tank

Ok, this is the part of the project that was not well planned, and therefore was also the scariest part. Getting the tank from the builder in Miami to the stand in my house.

I rented a large passenger van, removed the seats and picked up the tank. Much to my suprise the van had bolts in the floor that the tank fit between with only a few inches of clearance. It was a tight fit, and disaster could easily have happened....
