My 265g Display - 350g Total system

Here is the link to my 265g build - I started the thread in the local club section of TRT .. but here is the link:

The Tang Tank / Tanginator - 265g Build Thread!

There are a few pages, with lots of pictures.

I'll keep it in the other thread, but post updates in here as well.

Enjoy,

marco

Fantastic build! Curious, how'd you do with all those tangs?

Great .... haven't had an issue with the tangs.
I'd like to pickup a few more ... a yellow, maybe multiple yellows ... and maybe ... thats a BIG MAYBE ... a powder blue ... but i'm very up in the air about the powder blue.

I always heard tangs were suppose to be added last and that too many will cause a war. I have a Sohol and Desjardini Sailfin, would love to add more...these two have been in the tank for awhile. In your experience do you think adding more tangs to these two would be ok? Right now they follow each other around peacefully, although I have noticed a scrape here and there.
I've also heard if they are of different shape they get along better, do you know if this is true?

Viv,

I've had my share of issues with tangs ... In my previous 150g we had a yellow, sailfin, 2 x regals, .. few oher random tangs & a Powder Blue tang.

Powder Blue Trangs are pretty aggresive ... they rake on the top of the list .. alongside the Sohal Tangs.

We had the PBT for a few months, then added a Blond Naso ... 2 days later the Naso was dead ... the PBT was severly scratched up ...

Yes, tangs of the same shape don't fare well together if they are the more aggressive rated tangs.

Generally speaking ... add them all together ... when the light is out ... many have had great success that way ... others have not.... hit or miss.

I doubt you'd have an issue adding a regal or 2 to the tank.
A Yellow tang .. maybe a different story. a PBT or Naso ... i think you will have likely have issues ... but maybe not. also look at size ... make sure the newer one is larger than the current one.

We picked up a sick yellow tang about ... 2 weeks ago from a LFS ... he was "FREE TO A GOOD HOME" ... took him in - he looks MUCH better. He was really pale, had large white areas on his head. Top fins were eroded.

He colored up again, a much stronger yellow, the white spots on his head are no longer bright white, they are now a much more toned down off white, faded yellow.

Yesterday we picked up 2 more Yellow tangs, both are a little smaller than the rescued Yellow Tang.
Also picked up a Sargassum Trigger - he is about 2.5"-3"

I'm not even sure what the fish count is up to now ... has to be high 20's, if not low 30's.

On not so fortunate news - the aquarium almost killed me thursday night.
I just lifted the canopy up - turned around to take off my shirt, and the steel cable for the canopy winch tore. Canopy came slamming down on top of the tank - was surprised the tank didn't bust to be honest.

15 seconds later, and my head would've been under the canopy, over the tank.

I guess that goes to remind us ... when we get into some of these bigger systems - we need to take precautions, and build in fail safes, and backups. We try to make everything good for the inhabitants of the tank - yet we kind of negelect to think of ourselves - at least i did.

This was a great wekeup call for me! I will be tearing down the entire canopy, and rebuilding it. It will probably be using linear actuators, instead of this winch setup.
