Crown molding can su^* my @$%... I think I wasted at least 12' of it and still have to buy some more to finish. Therefore, I set it aside and took a break to start on the front access panel:
I still need to nail on the oak backing and interior trim molding, but at least this gives me a closer look at a finished product.

Well, there is still some work to do on this front access panel, but I wanted to see what it was going to lo like in place.
Sketch:
Actual:
As you can see I only have the interior trim molding done on the left half and I also want to round off the bottom edge where I'll be pulling. I'll finish it tomrow and then tackle the @*#&$%^ crown molding again.

Alright, I've given up on the crown molding. I don't think it's needed and at this point I've spent more than I care to share on this trim job anyway! Every time I get one compound cut right, the other side gets messed up somehow and because I need such long runs of it, I would have to buy another stick of it and it's getting rediculous!
Several people have offered to help and I appreciate it, but it would still mean me running to Star to buy more and I'm not doing it! So here we are today:
There are still a few things I am planning on doing. First, I plan to cap the top of the columns with a 1x4 and place some sort of trim under that top ledge between the two columns. If need be, I will place a second piece of trim to match under the bottom ledge for symetry. Otherwise, I need to get this job done because I am off to work on Thursday and I still need to stain and seal this thing!
Truth be told, I doubt I stain or varnish this thing before Labor Day!

I think it looks fine the way it is and would take my time staining it as well.

Great thread! Love the woodwork! I am in the middle of a 180 build myself and am working on the stand now. The woodworking portion of most builds is a often much more time consuming than people might think. Great job! Keep it up.
