400 Gallon Hurricane Katrina Rebuild

Hello Reefers,

My name is Jonathan Nemeth and now that my renovations are complete I wanted to share it with you. My wife Catherine and I purchased a flloded home in New Orleans 5 months after Hurricane Katrine. I wanted to build a reef tank into the structure of the home since we were doing a complete 1st floor renovation. This was my chance to make my dream tank.
Let me correct that I can dream bigger but this one was very do-able.

This is the home we purchased March 1st of 2006, it was a New Orleans special. Only 7 feet of water on the inside.

That's Catherine in front of the house thinking what are we getting ourselves into.

What I'm going to do is show you all the finished product and them go into the details of the project.

The Foyer the day of closing

The View of the tank from the foyer.

The kitchen 1 month after closing

The view of the tank from the kitchen

The dinning room the day of closing

The view of the tank for the dinning room

That is what things looked like and what we have today.
Tomorrow I will be continue whith how we got there.

The tank dimensions are Length 60", Width 44", Height 32" this was a special order from OCEANIC.

I will be getting into the construction tomorrow.

Although I did not document it quite as detailed as you did (Chris)
I read your thread you did a GREAT job in describing your planning, construction. New reefers and seasoned hobbyist will gain from your work.

Hey, thanks!! Any amount of documentation is helpful, though. It was mere timing that I got into the build=off, which inspired me to take more pictures and describe stuff as I went.

Are you from New Orleans, or did you move after Katrina?

I,ve been living in New Orleans for 10 years and my wife grew up here. I am originally from Pennsylvania, moved down here for the commercial diving (Oilfield Work).
