Find out if your unit does indeed use the old R-12 or R-134a. There is a difference in the refrigerant and you can damange the unit with R-134a if your unit uses R-12. That's why when the EPA requires car manufacturers to go with R-134a and not use R-12, many cars had to either get a convertion kit for older cars or go without A/C.

The chemical are different.
