Southdown or Oldcastle sand suppliers

Hi all

I am a newbie here but not to SW.

I was wondering if anyone knows where I might purchase some Southdown/Oldcastle sand in the general mid-valley area. I live in Corvallis but will travel.

Thanks

I am working on an Order for a Pallet.. It has come close and Fallen so I dont want to get your hopes up to high but I was promised by a local Store Manager that He would order me a pallet of Southdown from another store... Give me another week and I should know 100% for sure if its coming or not... I believe it was $5.38 per 50lb bag so I would say $6.00 bag Give me til Friday to know for sure..

illcssd. Yea I heard that Idaho was probably the closest as well. I even heard one guy in another discussion group mention that he was driving out to Idaho to get some. My son lives in Kennewick WA, which is fairly close to Idaho, so maybe next time I get out to visit him in June, I will check out the local suppliers to see if they have any. If they do, I will let everyone know. I might be able to bring back some extra bags for folks, but I aint no sand truck ;-)

cj10488. That would be awesome if you could arrange to get a pallet. I only have a 90G tank but would consider buying several extra bags to make it worth your while and have some on hand in case anyone else in the area might want some later.

do any of you guys want my old aragonite sand?

i have a 20gal garbage can mostly full of the stuff. it was in my last tank that crashed from heat almost a year ago.
it would need some healthy rinsing.

i decided not to use it in my new set up for fear of it being loaded with PO4.
i didn't have problematic algae when the tank was last running, i just wanted to make sure things went right in this new tank so i bought some fresh stuff.

any one that wants it is free to take it. i am will not deliver it though.

I believe there is like 42x 50lb bags to a pallet... Dont quote me on that number.. I was promised by the Mgr that he would get me some as he was unable to during the winter time due to low stock in East Coast stores.. he is also trying to make it a Normal Stocking Item as he has been asked numerous times for it... No promises but I can throw quite a fit when something doesnt go my way LOL (Customer Is always Right) LOL

Sounds great James.

I will have no problem buying 10 bags (500 Lb.). I will use what I need and sell the rest to other reef enthusiasts at cost ($6.00/50 pound bag) as long as supplies last. I could even buy more but it sounds like Renzema is looking for as much as is available.

Hey Renzema! Since we live in the same town, want to head up there in separate vehicles next weekend and have a sand retrieval party and maybe go to the meeting? Just a thought. I will help you load up for free.

James, I can mail you some money (cashiers check or whatever) if you need it? Thanks for doing all the research and leg work. This could not have come at a better time for me since I am in the immediate process of getting my 90G running as soon as I can.

I appreciate it and I hope that this all works out.

Thanks for the offer podman. I think that for this price, I will just settle for some new sand. I do appreciate it though.

sanblas. If you can't make it there, I would be all to happy to grab some bags for you and hold them at no charge. Just let me know how many.

Hopefully this thing will happen. Thanks again James.

What am I saying?

Sanblas. I am sure that James would save some sand for you. That way you would not have to drive all the way down to Corvallis. Duh!

Let me know if you want to get a group buy on this before July. I could easily use 10 x 50lbs bags! I just cant justify a full pallet and renting a truck to go get it. Depending on price I might be able to go for 15-20 bags.

As far as I have been able to tell the closest place is Idaho. There are 56 bags per a pallet load.

I drove to idaho for mine. Okay, not 100% just for the sand.. But the sand was a bonus.. So was the 2 flat tires, the chipped windshield, and the detours... grr....

Never drive to idaho during snow season...
