The trip was really good. The backstage tour at the aquarium was definately the best. We fed the sharks that were in the back holding tanks. I can't remember the name of the shark but he kept sticking his head out of the water to check everyone out.
Interesting facts I learned.
-It costs them 27k in electricity bills each month. (holy crap)
-95% of the facility is cold water exhibits. It will be interesting if we can help them get a nice stock of coral if they decide to start more warm water exhibits. (The Hatfield center expressed some interest in coral )
-Sea otters are just like small children. They get into all sorts of trouble and they cost the most to feed.
-The aquarium uses massive sand filters as the main source of filtration.
-The shark tunnel at the aquarium is beyond words. Very cool. We were in vegas earlier this week and went through the Shark exhibit at Mandalay Bay. The Newport Aquarium was so much cleaner and seemed to mimic the real environment of the ocean better than Mandalay Bay. It is a must see.
The look on my daughters face pretty much says it all.
