Skimmer suggestions

I am looking to get a new skimmer for a reef tank with 75-80 gallons including the sump. I have a Red Sea Berlin Turbo now that is going to go onto a fish only tank. I am leaning toward a Reef Devil at the suggestion of Sam at Waves. Please let me know what works and does not work. I thought that my Berlin was pretty good but most reefers tell me that it is not even close to the quality of others. Thanks for your help a head of time and I will see you on Sunday. Cheers, Patrick

DIY one!! RC has a big thread on one, search for the EAP skimmer, or easy as pie skimmer. Gets great reviews.

I've been very happy with my AquaC Remora. I have to empty my gallon jug collector about every 20 days (3/4 full mark). The gunk is pulls out look like strong coffee.

Patrick are you having problems with your tank currently? Is there a reason you want a different skimmer other then other people telling you the belin is not all that great?

The Remora is a very good skimmer. I have the Remora pro hanging on the side of my wet dry and it pulls out about a cup of coffee colored scum every 24 hrs. I got a Aqua medic turbo floater with my used tank that I got a couple of months ago and tried it out for a week before decideing to hook up my Remora. Takes way less space under the stand, and pulls out way more gunk then the venturi skimmer I had. IMO It is all about what works for your system as no two are alike.

No, I am not having problems with my tank. I have a 65 gal fish only with no skimmer and I have a 65 reef that has a Berlin. What I was thinking is getting a total kick but skimmer for the reef and put the Berlin on the fish only. I bought the Berlin when I just started out and did not have all the wonderful knowledge to tap into in the web site.

Diy Snailmans 4" skimmer on reef central works AWESOME!!! My next one will replace my Urchin pro on the 125 but I will counter current with a venturi setup.

It sounds like the Remora is the most suggested. Anyone else have any other thoughts or suggestions for me to look into?

Get a small euro reef skimmer find one with a blemish and you can get it cheap. I think there is a site called h2tropical or something like that, that sells them. great easy to maintain skimmer. I use a large version on my 180 sps tank.

Euro's are no brainers and they work great. Plug in and watch them foam.

Random suggestions for skimmers...

Partick,

First it would be good to know what type of tank you want to maintain. I think Sam was talking to you about an aggressive SPS tank. In this case, I would agree with Sam. This skimmer will perform excellent for optimal water that SPS require.
