skimmer pump q


Anyone know what pump im going to need to run this? Would a Genx 4100 work? The skimmer body is 8'' in diameter with, i think a 1'' intake. heres a pic

I would think that you would want to use a Sedra style pump with a needle wheel and venturi. They are a little more expensive that the non-needle ones but they create alot of little bubbles that helps with skimming. I just ordered a Sedra 5000 for my new skimmer, I got it from Fishsupply

well i was asking if a genx would work since im short on money and i can get one from a friend for pretty cheap...

You could use that pump and make a DIY needle wheel. Here is a link to that.

just a pump isnt going to do anyhting for you, you need a way to get air into it, either with a straight venturi, or with a pump with a needle wheel with a built in air intake.

either of those options, a 4100 would be fine, in fact it might need to be dialed back a bit with a ball valve.

yeah theres a piece JR gave me a piece of PVC with a hole in it and a place to run some air tubing out of it to get air in there... i just need to plumb it in somewhere.
