Shipping zoos?

I feel like the topic princess all of a sudden!

I posted on another board about my plain jane brown zoos and how I can't even give them away. And of course, someone said they'd take some and pay for shipping. From South Carolina.

So I've got the fragging part down, especially on the brown ones. There's so many they just tear away. Now, Rich's pinks... had to slice. They're a little angry yet. (Don't worry... if they go gunnybag, I'll make good on the trade!)

It's the shipping that I'm wondering about. What do I ship them in? I'm sure I'd need to triple bag... but what kind of box? I don't have a small styrofoam one. Should I get a cheap thermos? A cheapo plastic box from Wally-World? Oh, and heat packs. How do you guys ship your corals and zoos? What carrier is best for this sort of thing?

Thanks for letting me pick your minds... yet again!

You can use a wide mouth soup thermus or good small cooler like for lunches lol if u use soup thermus put in small box and pack with news paper so dosnt flop around triple bag the zoos and u can buy the heat packs at wally world in sporting section there hand warmers lol got mine there then wrap heat packs in a little news paper then pack corals with a little paper inside whatever u use put heat packs on bottom of container now if this is one way trip this above way may be more then u want to spend so id try to find a small styrofoam box if any friends or family work in the medcal field they get little boxs like that with different meds somtimes, my wife got me lots when she worked at one.The styrofoam box should be placed in cardboard box if possible so it dosnt get busted. hope this helps.

That helped! And hey, thanks for the tip on the styrofoam/medical connection. There's a pharmacy in Jay's store. Maybe he can score some small ones for me! I never would have thought to wrap the heat packs in newspaper, but it makes sense. Especially if the hand warmers are on the warm side. We've looked all over Wally-World and haven't found them. Well, we found them, but they were empty boxes.

Thanks for the help!

i was part of the huge frag trade a couple years ago(was started on RC and spread) i went to the thrift store and found a bunch of the cheap plastic thermoses for .50 cents ea. then just use the free priority mail boxes and tape and labels and your set. i always ran a couple strips of tape around the thermos lid, just in case something leaked a little bit. if it does leak they will hold it until you come and get it. bi-mart carries heat packs as well. good luck

The handwarmers only last 12 hours I think so unless you are shipping via an overnight service they won't last long enough.

GI Joes has 18hour hand warmers for .99 each. If you use a 1/2 gal thermos. They fit perfectly in usps priority mail flat rate box. So shipping is a flat 8.10 and they will get there in 2-3 days. Or use the same box and pay for there express service, that has never ran me more then 28.00 and is overnight to most places two at the most.I have shipped a lot of zoas this way with no problems.

you can also use wine shipping boxes and sample jars, i have gotten frags that way before. the win mailers usually hold 2 bottles, and you can put 2 to 3 sample jars in each side, so it is easy to ship 4 to 6 in individual containers.

most common is the thermos method though

I picked up a large plastic insulated coffee mug at walmart for .99 and they also have hand warmers that last 24hrs there too. Pack it all in a priority USPS box (i have some if you want one) and you are good to go.

You can get the priority boxes off the USPS website free. They ship them to you and everything!!

I didn't know that! And I'll have to go to Wally-World and see what I can find!
