Question

Return pump Q's

I'm building a sump for a 45t. My Q is, could I use a powerhead 802 for a return pump. Maybe two? I've just got a couple laying around and wondered if they would work? They would have too raise the water about 3'. Do you think this would work? If not, what would be a cheap way to go?

Way cool, Would I be better off too put two in and tee them together.
I have a tubing that fits over the exhaust, so that's not a problem.
Tanks for the reply

Many moon ago, when the corals were all soft and the wattage of bulbs remained less than 40, we use the old 801 series ph for return pump in smaller systems with success. The 802 did not work as well against head pressure but would lift several hundred gallons of water each hour to 4 ft. I remember the colored plastic flow restrictors and diverters would get encrusted and "freeze up". Good luck R2

you would probably be better served running one as a return pump and one in tank for more flow. even with two of those, at head you are going to need more in tank flow from somewhere.

i would watch rc for a nice used mag 7 or so, or if you can get ahold of mike (melix) , i know he had i think it was a 9.5 and wanted more flow, you might be able to save a few bucks buying his gently used pump (it is like 1 month old).

in the end, i think unless you are running a zoo or mushroom only tank, that the 802 just will not give you enough flow, a good temporary fix, but i would start looking for a good deal to upgrade that puppy.

that article somewhere said that 5/8" id tubing when heated slipped over the 802 perfectly, i would try that, and still i would use a hose clamp (plastic).

When might Melix be around? Also, all you guys with drilled tanks, would you maybe possibly have an overflow box laying around?
