REALLY WTB a bigger sump

Im in need of a tank for my sump that will be approx. 38-42 inches long and somewhere in the neighborhood of 18-20 inches. The bigger the better. If you have something, i would love to hear from you.

How about a rubber maid tote or look around for a used tank that's beat up but still holds water.

the tote is a really good idea but Im not a big fan. I want to put baffles in it. Ive been looking for an old tank for quite some time and cant find one.

To take care of the baffle problem, you could run smaller totes inside and just have the water cascade from one to the other. On your return pump, put an "elbow" on it and turn it down- so it's taking water closer to the bottom - just a little trick to elimate bubbles.

all good ideas!!! But i think i will try and stick with a real tank. Maybe when i get a monster tank i can use the giant 100 g totes they have. That seems more practical.

considered trying your hand at constructing a sump? both charles and tyler have done sumps, as well as frank (not sure he checks in any more)... you can probably get all the help you would need to put one together and then you can make it the exact dimensions you need.

a word of caution, when determining the length of your sump, don't forget to take into account the center brace on your stand if you have one, it can make getting too-long sumps impossible to get under the tank... to get my sump in my stand i had to disassemble the stand and then glue and screw it back together (nobody is getting that sump back out!).

Building my own sump would be fun but i need to come up with the money for acrylic. Actually, that is a terrific idea. I need some serious advise on this though. I ve only done some very minimal work with acrylic.

Also, I built my own stand and purposely did not put any center braces in. I can fit just about anything in there.
