Petco

Well I was in the petco at 185th and bought a couple of clown fish from them. Was impressed by there inprovement over the last time I was there. The sales girl even knew what the salinity of there tanks was. By the way they had a fat manderin for $10 very pretty. Almost bought it, but don't want to deplete my copod population. Most of there fish are aqua farmed. They get such bad press I thought I would pass on a good experience.

Unless you can report long-term success with these fish then I would not go bragging about Petco. I too bought two false percs from Petco. One lasted less than a month before wasting away.

i have bought alot of differant fish from petco in the past and i still have a few. 90% of the fish i have purchased have done just fine. the trick is to go in on the day they get their shipments in and pick out as healthy specimein as possible before it reaches their tanks. the majority of petco fish deaths is in their own tanks due to the fact that they will not pay to hire an experianced person to take care of the department. petcos will vary also from store to store, the petco in tualitan ,actually has an experianced head working there, she has been with then for almost 10years. our local petco in central oregon is pretty bad they don't run protien skimmers on there system because they don't know how to adjust the venturi to keep it from overflowing so they just keep them off, a few times they have forgotten to mix salt with the water when doing a water change, these kinds of things are sad to see especially since they will continue to sell fish that are next to death. my advice is if you don't want to take a 50/50 chance on the fish then pick a reputable saltwater store only and pay a little more for the livestock.

I just bought a pair of tank-raised fire clowns from the petco in Eugene a couple of days ago(got both for 14 bucks), and they are doing great so far. I have a mandarin, and a false perc that came from the same store, and are doing very well to this day(been in my reef for over a year).
The funny part is, the manager will tell you that the corporation sucks, but it's a job. He has tried to change things in the fish dept., but they won't let him do anything to improve things(light upgrade on the reef tank, skimmers, etc.) So he does the best he can with what he's given, and you can't fault someone for that.

Just wanted to let you know they aren't all bad.
