Question

OT: FW; the Admin's betta

So my office's administrative assistant wanted me to ask this forum a freshwater question:

Her desktop freshwater betta is having an issue. When he goes to flare his gills at another betta or his reflection, he only flares one, and he used to flare both. Anyone with any better betta info know why? Is this a problem brewing?

I'm going to e-mail her a link to this forum so that she may read the replies directly... Thanks in advance.

Does the gill appear red or inflamed at all? Does the fish act differently than it used too, such as eating less, hanging out in one area, etc.?

You might give one of the betta forums a try.

do a 75% water change for starters. do they notice any fuzz or stuff growing around the gill slits? i would also have them add a small amount of solar salt (1 tbsp per 5 gal of water). bettas get fungus infections very easily so you may need to treat the fish.
