New to TRT, just an introduction...

Hello to all from the great PNW! Tony is the name, I'm a 27 yo native Oregonian stoked to have been told of this PNWMAS group yesterday. I've been a member of TRT for a short while, but hadn't made time to really check it out. I've mostly been a reader of reefs.org and reefcentral to date, good forums, but a little geographically distant. I've been wanting to find some local reefers, and looks like I've been shown the right spot!

Personal experience: I have a BS in Fisheries Science from OSU. I've been elbow deep in aquaria (keeping seriously since 1997. All FW until now. Have worked in a few pet stores, including both of the shops in Key West, Florida (I felt like I was at the frontlines of the hobby with all the local critters of interest). I've done tank maintenance on lobster tanks (the kind you find in the meat dept at grocery stores) throughout Portland metro area for a spell. Now, I'm working at an OSU lab in aquatic husbandry (I help maintain a stock of Onchorynchus mykiss for research).

My timing is pretty good in checking this site out as I just *officially* plugged in my first reef system yesterday. 55 aga display, 25 aga fuge, 30aga sump. Planning on doing mostly soft stuff, and primarily want to display goby shrimp pairs.

I look forward to getting to know all of you, and would love to make it to one of the meetings that I've been reading about.

Sincerely,
Tony

welcome tony! i love the university marine sciences scene. i was a research diver for the university of california system for a couple of years, did work for ucla, ucsb, ucsd, and a bunch of various odd jobs for usgs, us navy, usf&g, mms, the monterey bay aquarium, mobile, pg&e etc. I know what a rush it is to be that close to the science of the hobby.

Hey, some day you need to line up a tour for all of us of your facility down that, i know i for sure would love to come see it.

softies, great place to start up again with. and gobies and shrimp, would love to keep them but they tend to not like the bare bottom as much, maybe in a nano some day.

at any rate, looking forward to chatting with you about past experiences and new ones. see ya around
