The clam is not a gonner.... you will know when he is... It will take a few weeks for his foot to attach... However I sure hope you have halide lighting as Croceas are Extreme light demanding clams... IMO what of the most light demanding clams... When they die you will notice them seperate from their shell while sucking in... They usually happen pretty quick... If you have halides and the clam is less that 3-4" then you are going to need to put it on a small rock that is easily removeable and place in a bowl of SW and DTs until the water is clear... They need to be fed quite often when less than 3-4"..

yes, i do have halides, and the shell i placed him on is easily removable, how often would you say i should feed him the dt's like that? i dont mean his foot wasnt attached to a rock, it was actually off the clam, like it was ripped off, so maybe when the guy removed it from the tank it was ripped off. its totally seperate from the clam now. thanks for your help james

I am quite lost when you say his foot is gone... His foot is usually tucked inside his shell.. As long as there is not a huge hole in the bottom you should be fine... Usually when they first attach they will throw out some threads that kinda hold it in place... Then the foot comes out and Locks the clam down... That can take a while... Mine has ripped his foot quite a bit from the Maroon pushing him off the rock as he was too close to his anemone... So far its going on about 1yr and all my clams are still going... As for feeding them I would say put him in a dish just enough to cover the clam and a bit more.. Add Dts until the water turns green... Let the clam sit in there for about 20mins until the water is clear again then carefully put him back into the tank... I would say every 3 or 4 days and atleast once a week... Check with Barry over at Clamsdirect.com Should be able to find alot more information over there.. With clams there is alot of important things to know about keeping a clam..
