Moving tank

will be moving locations at the end of the month and am taking this opportunity to switch my nano from the horrible eclipse 12 to a 20 long....
My sand is pretty much live and I would like to transfer it to the new 20l.
Is there a certain method to do this? I dont want to stir it up since I know this might cause some interruption to the bed and might cause a phosphate spike.

phosphate nitrate ammonia hydrogen sulphate... yummy stuff.

if you want to keep the sandbed, get fresh sand and just reuse the top inch of what you have, below that you will start getting into the nasties. you will get spikes no matter what you do, but this will minimize them. i would plan to reuse no more than 1/4 of what you have now however.

it is always good to recharge the buffering of your sandbed anyway, and this will do it for you.

if it is only 2 months old you might be ok, that really isnt long enough to trap a ton of garbage.

hard to get southdown here aside fron other club members that have bought it in bulk and had extra. a few folks had some extra carribsea size 0 and 1 floating around, you might look into that... or you could get lucky on the sd.

i still vote barebottom!

nar, wet dry filters function exactly as do sandbeds, to create nitrate buildups
