Meeting topic, automatic contol development idea, or a bad joke?

How to safely put a reef tank on autopilot while you are on a long vacation.

Close but not exactlly what I am looking for,

I don't mind and I don't have any problem taking care of the maintenance when I am home.

In the winter, I want the freedom to go on south for a month or more at a time. I am talking about having necessary maintenance (such as feeding) automated so that it is easier on whoever you ask to be your "reef babysitter" It would be good to have the maintenance automated so that your babysitter can take care of the tank on a weekly basis or as required such as when an alarm from your system such as "power failure" is sent to them.

I have read several examples of very experienced reefers who have returned from vacation only to find a dead tank. Seems like more thought needs to be
put into how to care for a tank if you can not watch over it for extended periods.

I have always been curious exactly how specific shop owners can be in asking for what they want. Do any wholesalers offer pics of their livestock to choose from? What are some problems that owners have run into in the past with importers/wholesalers/transhippers?

Additionally, as the shop is new, I would be interested in hearing about any hurdles that came up, both planned and unplanned, and how you went about overcoming them. I know a lot of people would love to some day become a person employed in their hobby, and I think that hearing about the good and the bad of reopening a business would be of interest to a lot of folks.
I'd be interested in this as well!

Also, if someone is bringing an Infocus type projector I could bring my laptop with PhotoShop on it.

Here's one that I hoped would actually provide some information because Phd's were involved. http://reefcentral.com/forums/showth...hreadid=419815

If you don't want to read all 408 replies: the debate boils down to one Phd saying "Trust me" and they end up trying to put the burden of proof on the other side, all while using the appropriate jargon that impresses the lay masses. Read close and you'll even see DonJasper's point of view!

Having learned from the past: Whenever I hear another DSB debate about to start - I quietly leave.

too funny. I remember that thread...lol

yeah...DSB vs. BB never fails to be a can o' worms...hehe. It's such a regular on topic lists so I had to include it, but When Shaun picked out that one i though "uh oh.."

Maybe just keep it as a backup announcment in case there are any long uncomfortable silences...lol

*silence* *crickets*
"So....I hear DSB's are for sissies"

*eruption of heated debate*

(feelin goofy today)

I don't want to create further conflict here. I would just like some topics that people actually want to hear/learn about. If discussing DSB vs BB is just a waste of your time and mine , pick another topic or none at all.

If noboby wants to dicuss anything other than movement of corals from collector to retailer, please let me know. I was actully spending time organizing a powerpoint presentation and arranging for a projector, seating and a laptop.
