Mag test kits?

Does anyone test for Magnezium in their tanks? I asked my LFS last time I was in there if they had a Mag. test kit and got laughed at. They said they never test for it which is probably a testament to why their corals look like s!#@it! Just curious how many reefers here test for it? Or do you just depend on WC Monthly to replenish the Mag. and other elements?

I do not test for Mg on a regular basis... Mg is important as it helps balance out the pH, Alk and Ca... They all go hand in hand... Its not something that everyone tests for however IMO they should... Most all salts are very low in Mg (900ppm) except Oceanic which is extremely high (1500)... Unless you are having Ca, Alk and pH concerns I see no reason testing for it... Adjusting it can cause more problems then it can fix if you see no visable issues..

So as long as your cal. alk, and Ph are in tune Mag should be ok? I often see people displaying their test results for Mag. at 1300ppm. Just want to make sure I'm doing all that needs to be done.

It is a good test to having hanging around and knowing where you are at with levels wise but not something that needs to be monitored all the time unless your adding supplements..
