LFS in Eugene

I've never been around to any shops in Eugene, and I was thinking of hitting a few up on Friday. Any suggestions?

cichlids and salt and aquaserene are the two i know of.

aquaserene gets in some decent to exotic stuff from time to time. i also consider them to be pretty expensive.
cichlids and salt didnt have much when i was there, but if i remember correctly tuesdays they get their shipments. prices seemed pretty good.

C&S has gotten some fantastic reviews from Eugene folks. I haven't been there myself, but I hear they are very nice and helpfull, fwiw.

hopefully the owner (is it chris?) can make it to a meeting at some point and get to know us, and vice versa.

Its Sean at Cichlids & Salt. Great people, great shop. He will order whatever you need and always has a decent selection of frags as well as small colonies. Definately can't beat the prices. www.cichlidsandsalt.com His site usually shows what he has in stock, but sometimes is off because of a shipment or something. Just give him a call, he likes working with us PNWMAS people.

Aqua Serene, decent shop, lots of fish, very expensive. The corals have never looked well when i have been in there. Always brown, always expensive. $80 for a rock with 20 brown zoo polyps? Just crazy IMO. The people aren't the friendliest, they have never really offered me any advice that made sense. But if you want fish or FW fish, this place has tons of em. I know they are upgrading to a larger shop just around the corner in the same building. But they started that like in the beginning of the summer and I haven't seen much change.

Pet Time also has more fish than corals. Nice looking fish, the coral is fair i guess. Not a lot of light over their tanks, the stuff usually is browned out. Lots of FW fish too. Prices are better than aqua serene, still twice what Sean charges.

C & S

I went to Cichlids and Salt yesterday for the first time. I live in Albany so I have to drive to Eugene, Salem, or Portland if I want to find anything good.. I has really glad that I heard about this shop. The owners ever extreamly nice made me a great deal on four frags. one of then they broke off for me. They have a great looking Clam in stock. I would of loved to taken it home with me but I told myself I wasn't going to spend more that about $30 - 40 that trip. This is one store that I will make the drive to often when looking for some frags.

Hey all, just wanted to say thanks for the LFS info. I ended up making it to aquaserene (I agree with Impur on the pricing) Neat store though.

Heard from a reliable source: Irv, the owner of AquaSerene introducing himself at a dealers convention: "Hi, I'm Irv, I own AquaSerene, and I sell the most expensive fish in Oregon".
He's had a huge price drop since C&S opened up, they have him worried, and rightfully so. Prior to C&S opening up, they were selling Peppermints for $18 a pop. You can occassionally find a sweet deal, they were selling goby/pistol shrimp pairs for $20 for a while. I talked them into selling me a bubble coral for $20, it was sitting directly in front of a powerhead, about 4" away. They couldn't figure out why it was having tissue recession. Some TLC, and it's now nicely recovered.

To bad he wasn't around this weekend. i tried to buy a water damaged book there and the offer the employee (after having checked with whomever made the big decisions in back office) gave me was still $5 over what I could get one new at Amazon for. Oh well, maybe next time I'll track down Irv.

It probably was Irv... I talked the employee into giving me the discount, the coral looked like it was on the way out. Bubble's don't take to well to being placed directly in front of MJ1200's...

If I ever learn to take a non-sucky picture, I'll post one.
I go to AS to look around, and shake my head at his outrageous prices.
