Lets see those propagation tanks!
Howzit everyone,
I just got a 75gal acrylic at the meeting that I'm going to use as a propagation tank for stonies. The dimensions are 5 ft. X 18 in. X 16 in. I might be getting a 150 as a sump and convert that into half sump the other half as a prop. tank for softies.
Please post pics of some of your prop. tanks, even if it is in your sump LOL. That way I can see what works bet and what doesn't. I'll post some pics of my progress later.
Thanks in advanced.

Ok I was thinking of going with a DLSB (deep live sand bed) so that the organic "waste" can be consumed by the corals. Should I build a shelf stucture so that the frags will be above the sand, or just let it sit on the sand itself?

If your doing a prop system the best would be barebottom Frag rack system with possibly liverock in the sump area for a filter and 400w mh bulbs over them to pump out the growth...
JMHO..

I'm currently working on mine now, it is a 40G tank that I got for cheap. It is going to be bare bottom, heavy skimming and slow with most likely a 250 MH setup. I still need a good closed loop pump and a 250w mh ballast.
I would definatly do any SPS tank with bare bottom only, it will be much easier to have heavy flow and not worry about the nutriets. I would problably only do one fish if any, maybe a wrasse to keep and bugs inline.

Rich.. What size pump you looking for... I might have a AM3600 External Available for fairly cheap... Gotta check and see if the other person wants it first... But If not I would sell for like 150.00 No leaks and running strong...
As for a Wrasse... Tupperware bowl with some sand in it towards the back of the tank..

Ok, I see that everyone seems to run BB. I'll go BB, but have LS and LR in my sump where I will keep the softies? Maybe. Need to have some type of filtration since this is on it's own system.
Keep the pics coming.

i have a rubber maid ready to go, just have to hook it up...whatis thoughts on running into reef or as seperate system....
do people just use the skimmer as the filtration?
if i use a 100 gallon rubber maid with several levels and good lighting and used a skimmer on this would that be sufficient?
appreciate any feedback

Im excited to see travis's at upscales, I saw how he had these little "ice cube" lookin plugs, that fit right into those 1/2 inch (apx) lighting things, (all those racks folks are using).
lay them on a BB tank, and they hold all the plugs straight without falling over!

yeah, I'll be using eggcrate for my prop tank. Does anyone know where I could get long, big pieces from? Home Depot? LMK. THanks.
