Its running!
Ok, hopefully you all read the posts about JR getting my plumbing done for me... and today Scott (buck2) came over and we (well mostly he, ok, all he.... well, I did the sand....) got the thing running. It has sand, rock and is lookin gooood!! Can you believe it... I can't... but of course my computer is acting up and I can't get the pictures we took to download!! I am not going to transfer everything from the 29 just yet. I am going to let this one run for a couple weeks and let the water mature a bit. I don't know, though, if I can actually wait for that! Anyway, thanks to both JR and Buck2 for all their help!!! And now maybe all my dumb questions will subside... for awhile anyway. LOL!!! ONly until I get that new skimmer from Charles... then, look out!
One happy reefmama!!!!

I also want to say thanks to EVERYONE on here for all your help and advice... without this place I probably wouldn't have had the courage to even set up a bigger tank. You all are GREAAAT! NOW... lets just see how this one goes.
still a happy reefmama,
Jenni

Cool Tank
It looks SWEET!! The foundation is laid for a beauty!! She has a bunch of really nice rock in her 29 that will be the centerpiece when it's time to move it over.
I told her she should wait eight weeks to move things. I'll take 3 to 1 that she moves in in less than two

Yeah!!! Congrats!!!
Depending on how cycled your rocks are, you may want to do a water change within a week and anoher after a week. It may seem much, but it will help reduce your ammonia and nitrate. When I upgraded to my 224g from a 50g, I waited 2 weeks after setting up the tank, but did cycle the uncured rocks for about 6 weeks in another tank before putting them into the tank.
Main keep an eye (just one, not 2. ) on the ammonia level and nitrate. Once the cycle is complete, I would do one more water change before moving your tank over. Now I hate saying this, but if you have some favorite corals and unfavorite corals, use one of the unfavorite corals or fish as a test subject in the tank before moving the entire 29g over.
Have fun!!!!

Well, alot has happened since my post about the thing being up and running!!! First of all, I began to think that I did NOT want to keep the Home Depot sand that I had cheaply put in there, even though it was pure white and very fine.(It was silica and was beginning to actually make its way into the returns and blowing everywhere.) thanks to all of you and all of my rersearch AFTER the fact... just decided I didn't want to chance anything...so I was already thinking I would change that out before too much time went by... then it happened.... Sunday night i heard... drip drip drip... yes, you guessed.., leaking from the bulkheads even though I did a freshwater leak test... so at midnight on Sunday night there i was, draining 100+ gallons of water and putting all of my new rock into tubs... and crying becuase I was destroying my dream...
Fast forward to today... Scott, Buck2 on here, came over, took the whole bulkhead thing apart(remember this was a USED tank I bought)and whoever had this tank before had totally "rigged" the bulkheads . they were without gaskets, cut down to try and make the standpipes fit, which had already come about 100 times ( ask JR about this) ( does the word flood, come to mind JR???) LOL LOL and there were several other 'rigged" things that surely with time would have been disasterous. I went to Woody's, bought all new stuff, and Scott came back and installed it all tonight. In went the new Caribsea aragonite sand, thanks to Joel, and the rock and the water... and it is leaking in a new place!!!!! Not from the bulkheads themselves, but from where they glued the filltings into the bulkheads for the flexible tubing to come out of... but I think we can fix that with some goop stuff or silicone or something...
anyway, it has been a hell of a week with my kids home for spring break (sick I might add) and my grumpy husband home all week too and I found out 2 days ago that my Dad is coming to visit TOMORROW for 2 weeks!!! I am exhausted and have a million things to do....
you guys are great!
