Hi new here...from Southern Oregon..~long~

Hi everyone I had an invite to join your forum. I'll tell you all a little about myself and my tank.

Two years ago I got a 45 gallon tank and set it up as a reef...i was constantly on the boards. However due to having children and the lack of cash I didn't do much with it other than maitained it.

Well last month I lost my small Tang and two perc clowns and a camel shrimp that I had kept nicely for two years. My heart was broken....I believe it was due to scrubbing off some rock (hair algae) and a drop in PH....I wanted to kick myself and quit the hobby!!!

Well obviously it's in my blood....but I'm selling the 45 and going to a 15 gallon. Honestly for the money issue. I figure if I'm going to do this then I need to work with something I can afford. (I'm a stay at home mom with some small work on the side, so it's get a job or get a smaller tank...LOL)

So here I am back to be a part of this hobby I love.

So this is what I have. I have a 15 gallon with two 65 watt LOA and a actintic. I'm working on a better lighting system. It has a CPR Bak Pak Skimmer. I'm not sure how much live rock but it's out of my 45 and I'm guessing it's about 10-15lbs. I have about 1 to 2 inch sand bed and two condy anemones and two hermit crabs and some shrooms that survived from my 45. Oh yes and a Sea Urchin. After working very hard on water changes and such...i got all my water tested and things are once again perfect!

So if anyone has anything they are looking to sell that they think will work in my tank (donations also welcome LOL) Let me know! I don't have a lot of money to work with right now...but I will in the near future. I've sold most of my other stuff from my 45....I still have a 50watt heater and a 75watt heater if anyone needs one.

Welcome (I don't know how to put in the bells and whistles yet.)

This is a great place - with great people!!!

I started a year ago with a 29 gallon - this past December I set up a 240 gallon so I know what your saying about it being in your blood.

Try to get to our meetings - I always learn tons of stuff and have a great time talking with everyone. (Also a good time to take a mommy time out from the kid/s and hubby)

Welcome

We'd love to see you at one of our meetings! Or anytime you're going to be up this way, give a holler. Getting together with fellow saltwater nuts is always fun!

Thanks for the nice replys. I'm going to try my hardest to make the meeting. I think it would be great! There aren't too many reefers in my area.

I was so worried about getting another fish since mine died....even though all the tests came out ok I was putting it off. Well about 3-4 days ago I got a blue damsel and he's doing great! Yippie...I guess I'm back in the game.

The tanks seems to be doing well.....I've been keeping a very close eye on it and I'm going to keep doing that because it's a nano tank. I'm hoping to go to a 29 gallon in a few months...then I'll just keep it at that. A 45 was a nice size but too difficult to stock and I'm worried a 15 is too small to keep constant...we'll see

this is a freind of mines 7gal bow front tank
he never did saltwater before then with me prompting him decided to do a nano, he started with an eclipse 6 but didn't like the clarity of the tank so switched to the 7gal bow. i gave him an old skilter he ran and he upgraded the lighting to a 32watt smartlamp. he has a minijet and a micro in the tank one he put a spraybar on and put behind the rock. he never uses the skilter anymore for skimming just water movement so any powerfilter is fine. he does like a few cup water change once a week and adds some supplements and stuff grows like madd in his tank. i was very impressed with it the last time i was over and have thought about setting up another one.
a 15 gal tank is not a bad tank to do a nano in and its not as difficult as alot say, just keep a routine maintance and it should do fine.

Vulkum and Dave

Vulkum ~ that's a really nice tank. I hope to get mine there someday soon...I'll post pics soon. It's pretty bare right now. So no laughing. lol.

I'm keeping a really close eye on the tank. To me killing a saltwater fish is so heart wrenching...I get so mad at myself when it happens.

Dave ~ I live in Roseburg. No much here by way of reef keeping and I just went to Eugene on Thursday and it stunk too. Anything down your way...any good stores?

Aaron,

I took a look at that nano. It is really cool! The web site struck me as funny though. Here's a picture of my sps: [shot of whole tank] Here's the red mushroom [shot of whole tank], some other mushrooms [shot of tank]. Hey, thats a nano for you! ;-)

puntific

ps. I hope this doesn't offend. I have had a hard day and it was nice to get a chuckle out of something.
