Unhappy

HELP! Do I have a parasite?

AWH... the joy of relaxing and watching your tank... AND THEN I saw these two small bug-like things on a piece of live rock I recently added to my tank.

I've frantically been going through all my reef/marine/fish books to find something that might identify what I'm seeing, but found nothing... much is written, not many photos.

So, does anyone know what these are? Do I have a problem???

Would love some help...

THanks, Nikki in Beaverton, OR

It definitely looks like an isopod, but it doesn't look like a cirolanoid isopod (the bad ones) to me. The ones I've seen (and had to fish out of my tank) are white/opaque with two prominant big black eyes.

Thanks all! Feeling much better after reading through your feedback. No, bug doesn't match up with the nasty, nasty isopods that I saw on some of the links. (whew). Also, thanks nathan (powdertoastman) for posting on the other site... a member there suggested a good link to research!

Again, thanks all. / Nikki
