At the picnic, Brooke and Doug recommended that people read books, well, for well over a year I couldn't get a tank so that's what I did: read and re-read my books, until I set a tank up, I could at least plan it out...
This is my reading list in no particular order:
'New Marine Aquarium' by Mike Paletta
'Host Sea Anemone Secrets' by Dr. Ron Shimek
'Sand Bed Secrets' by Dr. Ron Shimek
'Breeding the
Orchid Dottyback' by Martin Moe
'The Conscientious Marine Aquarist' by Bob Fenner
'Clownfishes' Joyce Wilkerson
'Book of Coral Propogation, Vol. 1' Anthony Calfo (I've read this more times than I can count, I'm one of Anthony's proofers, for anyone looking to commercially raise corals, this is a
must have IMHO)
'How to Raise and Train Your
Peppermint Shrimp' April Kirkendoll
'PocketExpert Guide Marine Fishes' Scott Michael (a must carry if you're in an LFS looking over that fish)
'Natural Reef Aquariums' John Tullock
'Aquarium Corals' Eric Borneman
'Invertebrates: A Quick Reference Guide' Julian Sprung
roughly 18 months worth of Aquarium Magazine
Reefkeeping and Advanced Aquariast online magazines
large chunks of Wetwebmedia.com
ditto on Reefcentral (filter out the noise though)
Paletta's articles over on FFE
and words of wisdom from this board.
I read, and I read a lot (compulsively is not a bad descriptor)
Knop's book on Giant Clams is on my "to get" list, and I can in all honesty recommend all these books, esp. Palleta's if you're just starting out.
