DSB to a barebottom.
Well, over the past month ive been slowly removing my sandbed and today was the final transition from a dsb to my new barebottom tank and i love it. I think the barebottom looks so much better than a dsb. Thanks again Ryan for the suggestion of switching. Also, im looking for nice maxima clams if anyone has any for trade or for sale.

just be sure to have a nice length of tubing so you can siphon out the detritus once a week. you will be shocked/disgusted at how much stuff will appear, knowing that before all of that went directly into the sand, staying in your system!

Alright another Bare Bottom reefer
I have to siphon once a week, the rocks are still soughing off detrius. I just use one of those sponges with the green pad on it and the Kent scraper to take care of the brown algae that crops up on the bottom of the glass and done in about 10mins. Much eaiser on maintenance

Well, im very sad. After removing everything from my tank and spending a good 2-3 hours doing so including rinsing out the tank and sump and cleaning them thouroughly and then setting everything up I would have to say it was fairly successful. But I did have a significant loss, my brand new deep purple and electric blue crocea fell off its rock that it was attached to and was injured. I think its dying because its barely attached to its shell now and im very upset because this was my centerpiece. Anyone know how to heal a clam or is it a losing battle??? All advice will be greatly appreciated.

sorry to hear about your clam. croceas are notoriously fragile. I really do hope yours pulls through, unfortunately i lost my babies last year, they now live in the big greenwater tank in the sky

Very sorry about your loss Ryan, those were some beauties. I think my clam passed away, it doesnt move at all when my fish swim near it and my lion was resting on it earlier and I saw no sign of life from the clam. Not sure what to do. I wouldnt want to remove it incase its just really stressed and thats why its not closing up at all but I also dont want a dead clam polluting my tank either. Any way I can tell for sure if its dead?
On a different note, I siphoned my detrius out today and it was quite disturbing seeing what normally would have gotten lost to the sandbed. I went and bought some of those micron bags for carbon and attached it to the end of the siphon hose to catch the detrius and drained it into a bucket. After all the detrius was out I dumped the water back in the tank. Worked great and took about two minutes to accomplish. Im loving the barebottom more and more every day. Also, its amazing how much brighter it is in my tank without sand in there.
Phil
P.S. If anyone is interested I have a 1/2" seaswirl for trade.

Whatcha looking for the SeaSwirl? I would be very interested in it..
AS for the clam if its detached from the shell and sucked in looking I would say its dead IMO as well... Had a few die that way...

Just wanted to let everyone know that my crocea passed away. Looks like Ryan Mackey has some very nice replacements though that will be going in my tank soon
Also, the seaswirl has been traded to James. Thanks again James for the corals. They are all in the tank and looking awsome.
