Dry sand best prices around here

Hi all,

Getting close to having my tank running
Need to get some sand, where did you get yours, what kind is it and how much did you pay. How many pounds will I need in my 40g 16"x36" for a 5-6" bed.

Thanks a ton for your help

Jimbo,

SeaHorse has the best price on all kinds of sand. The last time I bought some it was $.95/lb. Alice, can you verify this?

You can get them from small gravel to crush coral. I would get atleast 2 bags if you want to have a thick base.

I got 500 lbs of silica sand with a total cost of $35. I then top that off with 300 lbs of calcium sand from my other tanks that I got from different places with a rough total of $100.
Here is where I calculated how much sand I would need.http://www.reefcentral.com/calc/SandBed.htm

Deep Sea Gallery sells 50 pounds of aragonite sand for 45 dollars. That's $0.90 per pound.

Hey Jim;

Maybe I'll run into you at Woody's sometime, I've been working there off and on for the last 4 years.

Woody has a sign over the door that says "We love to match prices; even if we have to raise ours to do it!"
