Day Trip to PDX

Jay and I decided that we would go up to Portland and check out some of the LFS we've heard about from you guys. Don't worry, Sean... you're still our main man!

First we stopped of in Salem and checked out Advanced Aquarium. Great little store! Nice sized frag tank and the display tanks were beautiful. Definitely a place we'll go to again if we're in town.

Next we went to Waves. That place is a BUGGER to find! It's a nice place. Clean tanks, big frag tank... Jay's only complaint was that it didn't seem as though they took credit cards. I can't imagine them not, but who knows! Anyhow, we did end up taking a teeny tiny ricordea home. Probably no bigger than the end of my pinky finger, but I thought the coloration was awesome. I'll attach it for you all to see.

Last of all we went to Seahorse. Jay got a little skittish when he saw that Woody runs his shop out of his garage. But I told him everyone talks about it, so we're goin' in to see what all the fuss is about! It's a cool joint! And busy! Jay really liked the fact that he read that if you buy equipment from them and it breaks they'll fix it for free. We ended up grabbing a few hermits and a couple peppermint shrimp since we enjoyed the store so much.

I feel like I'm cheating on Sean of Cichlids... but dang! Is it possible to go reef store hopping and not come home with something!

So that was our day. We're planning another trip in the future to check out Soutas, Upscales and the Hidden Reef (which I need to find an addy for). We've been to Upscales a long time ago so at least we won't get lost trying to find that shop!

Happy New Year to all!
Stacy

Glad you liked the Ric, Illusion! We both thought it had amazing coloration. Couldn't pass it up.

We would love to stop by and see you when we're in the area. I don't think I could ever possibly tire of looking at reef tanks. They are just so amazing and full of life. They're incredible. I had some friends over last night to see it for the first time and Tami said that she could curl up on the chair and watch it for hours. I think I gave them the "Reef Bug" as well. They're talking about jumping into the hobby one day.

Plus they enjoyed the heck out of "Meatball" the savage clown fish chase after and sometimes nip Sean's hand as he was fragging one of his homes. You could just about see the fish throw down his gloves and scream, "It's on!!!"

Well, maybe it's just as well Jay didn't see that they took cards... there was so much great stuff in there it would have been easy to spend more. A coco worm, a couple frags... yep, coulda been bad! And Sean has already told me he'll be taking care of me for a while since I took him corals and a couple tangs already. Still need to catch some more fish though. Probably not "One-Eyed Willy" the PJ cardinal though!

Oh, and fear not... there are other frags in there the same color as mine. Tiny... but they exist.

Toodles!

Gateway Tropical, huh? Once I figure out where it is I will definintely check it out.

I know I missed out on Upscales. We used to be in awe of their display tank. We would have made it if Jay didn't decide that he was hungry and had to eat. Course, Fuddruckers is always good. Drown the fries with nacho cheese, get my burger medium rare. Mmmmm...

We need to start out earlier next time, too. I think we left at 11 in the morning playing that "What do you want to do today?" game.

TTYL,
Stacy

Bring the plastic!

Oh, yes... we will! And we do love the Ric... it's the brightest thing in the tank! That's our goal, to have a brightly colored tank.

I know we sure are glad that we found it yesterday instead of waiting for the meeting in a couple weeks to find it. We probably would have missed the meeting!

Maybe I'll bring that mystery coral (well, I guess it's not a mystery anymore... but that will forever be it's name) with me to the meeting so you guys can see up close what stumped so many, including Sean who saw it up close and personal.
