cleaning fabric 100 micron filters?

So what is the best way to clean the sump filter bags when they get dirty? I heard you can just throw them in the washing machine? Would you leave the soap out of it?

You could use bleach as long as they were rinsed VERY well afterwards.

My method:

1) Painstakingly assemble 8 quarters for coin op laundry machine. Convince girlfriend that sump socks can go in with the "whites".

2) Use 1/4 cup laundry detergent, full amount liquid bleach.

3) Select Cold water, whites.

4) Run machine for full cycle.

5) Remove filter socks before sticking rest of laundry in dryer.

6) Place wet socks in 5 gallon bucket, fill bucket with fresh water and extra amount of Amquel or other Tap water detoxifier.

7) Soak socks for an hour, Use "smell test" to determine chlorine level. Test for Phosphates in bucket water (reminants from laundry detergent), drain water and add more detoxifier if smell remains. Replace sock in sump with freshly washed sock.

8) Throw out underwear that has sump sock stains from dryer. Convince girlfriend it was NOT the sump socks that caused her Victoria Secret $40 bra have a stanky funk. Never wash with the "whites" again.

I take mine and turn them Inside out.... Take them off to the Laundry mat and toss them in and pour in bleach til It looks like its Enough... (maybe thats why I go thru so much bleach) and put it on the Extra rinse cycle on Hot...

Pull them out.. Wait 3 or more for any Risidual chlorine to Evap and call it good... Just make sure no one is looking when you toss them into the Washer LOL..

It's funny - I just ran mine through the washing machine tonight - just used hot water (no soap, as I was peranoid that I wouldn't be able to get it out). Turned out great. One question - what's the advantage of adding bleach? Does it outway the disadvantage of having to make sure it's all gone?

The reactive molecules in bleach are volatile....so do what james does....After washing them, hang them on a line outside for a few days.....Bleach gone!
