anyone have any extra cycled nano's?
hi all,
I know this is a longshot, but I thought I'd give it a try. I wanted to get a nano tank for my classroom this year. I have a 20 that I want to use next year, but need to go throught the LR process with it first. We are going to be doing the phylums/animal-plant kingdoms soon and I'd love to have a small tank that I can use for that (just like Mr. S) so my question is this. Does anyone have an already cycled nano(sub 10g) tank that theyre looking get rid of? I just wanted something I could throw some small stuff in, some shrimp, crabs, snails, mushrooms, zo's, worms, etc. If anyone has anything like that they would be willing to sell (in the name of science) I would be very interested. I suppose I could set up a tank without a sandbed or anything and just bring stuff in for a day or two, but I'd like avoid the shock to the animals and be able to keep them there for a while.
thanks ,
sean

you can get a little mini-bow from petco one of the 5 gallon types, and just see if someone will let you buy like 5 lbs of rock out of their tank and a bucket of water form a waterchange. that would give you instant tank.

or if you want a nicer nano setup check out soutas, last time i was in there they had some very nice nanos for sale, i think they were from 5gal to like 15gal tanks, all came with a PC hood and either a under gravel filter or a build in sump/fuge on some of them. very nice but im sure spendy too. just thought i would let you know. and if you need sand a few people do a sand swap at the meetings everymonth for anyone who wants to trade. good way to get more life in your tank.

Checkout the Salvation army or Good will, you might be able to find a good used tank, but make sure it's not a reptile tank. You can use iodine to wash it out and as Krux mentioned, get some "old" water form a water change, I'm sure you can get a piece of LR or two and sand is no problem ( I went BB so no sand)- you are good to go.

I think I may have just what you are looking for. My 12g nano....i've been debating takin it down for a bit now...It has a light, a built in sump with wet/dry bioballs, a mini heater, and is fully contained with everything needed. I can also throw in some extras..and a couple fish...Gimme a PM and we can talk.

hey guys thanks for the ideas, if peiros tank doesnt work out I might go the minibow route with some LR and old water just to have something in the classroom. Question, would just a few pieces of LR do the trick (ie just a pound or two) with maybe a scoop or two of sand out of my fuge and some old water? I would assime bare bottom might work best for this.
thanks

in a 12 gallon i would prefer to do at least 6 punds if it was mine. a better ammount to shoot for would be 8 or 10 lbs, depending on the porosity of the rock.
work with piero though, top notch guy.
