Animals we hate to see at the LFS....

Surprised?
Just a thread to discuss what animals we think should be avoided by the hobby public in general and why they should be avoided

This is not to say that someone with a responsible and appropriate scientific approach to attempting these animals shouldn't try to advance the hobby...just that these animals probably should not be sold to the general reefkeeping public because they have high enough failure rates to be deemed "unsuitable"

Corals:
- Dendroneptheas/Scleroneptheas - nutritional needs cannot be met
- non photosynthetic gorgonians - nutritional needs cannot be met

Fish:
- Sharks - space needs cannot be met
- Moorish Idols - nutritional needs cannot be met, debatable? :P
- Blue tuna - hehe

I was under the impression that Gonioporas are no longer considered impossible. But maybe that's only for Steve...lol

Artifically colored or dyed corals and anemones. Horrible practice, and still prevalent.

green goniopora, the red & purple ones are much easier to care for.

Nurse sharks, aka, I'll just donate it to an aquarium when it get 9' long...
Catalina Gobys
Crocodilians (unless you can find one of the dwarf species that only gets a few feet long, otherwise, you have no business owning one)
Coris Wrasse (show me the tank that can handle 20+ inches of fish)

Manta ray. Tuna. Sharks.

Oh, and the blue ring octopus.

Wait...

Maybe every store should be required to stock blue ring octopuses, simply for the Darwinian effect on the subset of the population that doesn't do research before making impulse purchases.

lol

Seamonkey, are they xmas tree worms that live in Porites? That is the specific animal im referring to. This is great news if so, and I'm sure we'd love to hear your system specs in order to figure out how you did it...

Ralph, good one on the octo..lol.

lol...Jenny. If there's a soap opera here, it's just in yer head :P

The peanut gallery seems to apply much more drama to a bit of healthy debate than it warrants....I think you all just want entertainment and will instigate in order to get it...lol

And don't worry... I will state an opinon at some point that won't be the standard verbal hi-five, and the waters will again be aboil with cries of shock and awe...

Unless of course people learn to handle opinions from others without flyin off the handle...imagine that!
