1st class tank up and running

Hi all,
As some of you know I am a high school biology teacher, and I set up a 12g nano in the classroom a few weeks ago. So far its been going great, tank is doing well and the kids love it, many of them still cant believe the there is actually coral in the tank. Ive also had a bunch of kids say "thats a shrimp? Ive never actually seen one alive before" Nice to expose them to marine life other than what they find at Red Lobster The other teachers are getting into it as well.
the tank is a 12g flatback hex self contained unit courtesy of Piero
only 18w of pc on it, but I might add a little more soon.

my inhabitants
1 perc
1 cleaner shrimp
1 fire shrimp
1 large feather duster
pink zo's
green zo's
reddish zo's
orange zo's
2 types of palythoa
yellow polyps
2 types of xenia
daisy polyps
white star polys
green star polyps
lots of different shrooms
hermits
margharita snails
bumblebee snails
strombus snails

I wanted to say a special thanks to a few people who have helped out a lot
thanks woody..great guy dont really need to explain this one
thanks roger(mr. S)
thanks piero...very nice softy selection at reeflabs.com
thanks reefcam(Jim) owner of rainbowcorals.com great guy, great livestock, I highly recommend checking out his site

I hope to have some pics up soon.

and if anyone has any extra low-light stuff let me know as I can cram some more stuff into the tank...and as always if anyone has any extra equipment, keep me in mind...Im looking to set up more tanks and I have the staff convinced to turn the 200g we have into a reeftank, but thats a ways off.

thanks to all, see some of you tomorrow,
sean

Hey Sean, good to meet another reefer... you know what the next request will be... PICTURES!!!

So you ended up with Piero's tank. That was a well maintained tank. Man, from a 12g to a 200g... that's call a hugh jump...

I do have bare M59 ballast that I can donate to your school for your 200g tank. Maybe the shop can help build an enclosure for you. I can help with wiring if needed.

Thanks
Jim

Well shoot! Now you need a reflector and a mogul socket. Guess who has a spare laying around collecting dust?

I'll give it to reefcam to give to you.

finally got a decent pic of the class tank, I highlighted the corals that Lee from thelogicalreef.com threw in for the group order since I wanted to show him how they looked.

I realize not a great pic, but the best our cheapy digital camera at school can muster. you really cant see many of the zoathnids in this pic at all, and there are a bunch on the sides(its a flat-back hex tank), but you can get an idea of what it looks like.

thanks,
yeah thats piero's tank....got to say I wouldnt get a little hex like that again, theres very little room to move anything around, and not a lot of hand room, its very shallow. that being said, its very easy to maintain, only 3 cords, and very portable, so it works for my needs right now

its too bad the daisy polyps didnt come out in the pic, theyre at teh top of the tank, coolest thing in there(except for the new stuff, Lee sent nice corals, the hammer especially is very cool, its purple tentacled with green hammers), but the daisies are great, and they actually seem to be growing under my crappy lighting, go figure.

That's too funny. That tank used to be under my main tank until I swapped everything out. Then Piero ended up with it because I didn't want to clean it.... funny.

I originally bought that in '94 to house an octopus and it was very successful. So what does the whole setup look like now?
