If you use DHL they may leave your package at the door

Yah so today I logged onto DHL to track a package for some reef stuff I bought from a fellow reefer to see if it was on schdule for delivery tomm. Shows today it was delivered at 157pm so I click on the signature and it has an error. So I call DHL and he says yah our driver left it on your door step at 157 this afternoon. I was like well I got home at 230 and it was not there and I was picking up my roommate at the airport so I know he doesnt have it. Guy told me I have to get ahold of the shipper to file a claim. Stupid driver who the heck leaves a package on the doorstep in N. PDX....if you arent familar with the area its a rather seedy side of town. I knocked on all my neighbors doors and no one saw it of course so I am out till the claim gets processed if it gets processed. So dont use DHL unless u want them to leave it on your doorstep.

Thats weird that they left it because I had something being delivered by DHL last week and they wouldn't leave it if I wasn't home.

Is it really fair to knock a company on a public board after one bad experience? What if that was my employer? How do you think that would make me feel? What if we said "don't use *fill in with your current employer* ever again unless you want terrible service" ?

I can see your point of view, however if I had known that DHL has a practice of leaving things on peoples doors then I would have asked the shipper to use a different service. My point was to educate other reefers as to DHL's practice. I guess I could retitle the thread "If you use DHL they may leave your package at the door" I have used USPS, UPS, and Fedex and they all leave slips but maybe they leave packages on peoples doors also.

Unfortantly all of the delivery companies will do the samething, they are not all supposed to but its really up to the driver.

As for weather its right or wrong to post here, I see nothing wrong with posting your experience here, this is what the forums are for right? I used to work for UPS and I read through many people complaining about bad experiences and I never once felt like the person posting was talking about me. Corvica thank you for posting your experience...

Honestly, it really depends on the driver and the day that he/she is having. Often I have companies that will not under any circumstances (even if a note is left) leave a package, and other times I had a VERY VERY expensive package (which is why I am broke now...but I purchased it under credit...it's a rembrandt etching reprint that my husband had to have) on the porch for a week while I wasn't home. I have used all different companies, with each one having a different experience of whether they will leave it on the porch or not.

I would be upset with them if you had made explicit instructions NOT to leave it on the porch...other than that I think it's anyone's guess if they'll leave it or not!

I'm a delivery driver. We are not allowed to leave anything on someone doorstep, unless the customer or shipper says its okay. But recently both Fed-ex and UPS left packages on my porch without permission.

Hmmm those that have been in the industry do you know if there is pressure on the delivery person to get them delivered causing them to leave them so they dont have to come back a second time or leave a slip. Just a thought. Guess I will put a sign on the door to not leave packages under any circumstances.

There must be a reason why they drive vans instead of large delivery trucks like fedx and ups.

I hate DHL as well, I will not use them. too many horror stories. And speaking of xbox 360. I know, a few people and have heard from many more that when they sent theirs in for repairs, it came up missing on the way back because someone at DHL stole it.

I agree DHL sucks. There has to be some reason they use rented penske trucks here in Eugene.

But i shipped some corals to cali for a trade via UPS. They didn't even leave it on the doorstep, instead they left it on the side of the ladies house, IN THE RAIN! She didn't find it for 3 days. Obviously everything died.
