You guys are funny! Heres how to fix your tank:

1. Go on vacation
2. Let me care for your tank
3. I'll feed it so much you'll get chills half way around the world
4. Return and become shocked at the rich colors your tank developed

NoScwhag tried it, he can vouch!

Honestly I can't understand all these "my corals are too light" threads. Go buy a herd of Anthias, or a dwarf lion, or a herd of fat tangs(like me) and feed them until they love you!

Jim, don't make a lot of changes fast. Just stop, slow down, and think about what's happening. Then you can adjust the equipment you have to make it work.
Really, there's a lot of different equipment out there and most all of it will get the job done. People that are successful, are just people that have learned how to work their tank and their equipment.

Almost everyone has corals die on them. Keep working with the ones that live for you.

Me either.

I keep trying to tell people that the reason I got rid of the DSB and started this whole SB thing, was that I could not keep enough fish, could not really feed the ones I did have, and got tired of my stupid sand bed acting up every time I tried to feed the fish right.

Now I have a ton of fish, and the amount of food I feed them each day would give most people a heart attack.

but i think that part of the problem is that someone reads this thread and the comments , and thinks hey it works for them , so i'll just feed alot more . then they are discouraged because things get worse ! not once do they ever think about that skimmer thats two sizes too small for their tank in the first place . for some reason folks think they can get away with a $200 skimmer on their 200 gallon tank and then p.o.ed at us because we said - feed more .
also , spanks i got that info you asked about ! i just have to figure out how to transfer them , then i will p.m. you . its amazing how no one notices a 9 yr old !

LOL are you teaching your daughter bad things?
.....do not ever tell her that uncle Spanky was behind it!

I agree 100% with everything you just posted. That's why I said this:

I guess somehow it needs to be worded "feed as much as you can take right back out" or something like that.

Thanks I needed to rethink things. I know that the amount of light is a problem since I had the frags under a overhang and they where doing fine. I checked my nitrates and they are 0. So I'm not feeding too much, but it will take time for changes made to affect the water column, must wait and see. Take a deep breath

My skimmer strips the water column

I reduced the MH to just 2 hours a day. Now wait a week or two and see.

yes, it actually can.

Again, not for the reasons that most people seem to think. Not from removing something too fast, but adding something too fast. Just like phosphate removers.

Carbon can add phosphate and iron very fast, which can shock zoox or cause zoox to start producing more, which can cause corals to expel them.

Michael, do this with the carbon.

Soak it in a lot of RO/DI or distilled water for a couple of days and do a few water changes on it first. It won't effect how the carbon works, but it will leach most of the ash out before you use it.

How big's your tank?

New carbon, before you ever use it. Soak and do a few water changes with RO/DI or distilled first.

How big is your tank? and how big is a 1/2 container of hydrocarbon??
