ok after a year of trying everything I am ready to go back to a sandbed. Corals are still pale and have lost most of what i had. There has to be a problem with Bb tanks as I have not seen any that are still what they once was. Can someone show me a BB tank that is at least 2 years old that the corals have great color and do not have any type of RDSB. I think after trying for almost two years total I can not keep SPS in a barebottom tank. If things have changed please tell me as I would hate to add a sand bed but I think I just may have to.
Michael

It's not a big deal. You'll be enjoying the growing corals too much to care if you have some sand in your sump.

I hate to put this link here but it gives more details. How much detritus build up in a barebottom tank can there be? I am starting to think that just a little bit could be causing this problem or could the starboard be leaching phospates? I have just started to add phospate remover in hopes that this was the problem I have also sent a water sample to aquariumwatertesting.com I should have all the results back either today or tommorow any help would be gratly appreciated.

Also Leonardo's Reef's 100 Gallon System crashed so that does not count.
I am not trying to get into it with anyone just trying to solve the problem and would like everyones help. Please do not take my replies as a negative one just trying to keep it real.
Thanks
Michael

I've been without sand for over 2 years now, and while I've upgraded tanks about 6 months ago, I've not found my corals to be losing color. They have different colors sometimes, but I find mostly they color up when I get frags from folks with old DSBs.

I have just learned that my votech pump magnet wet side has rust on in. How much does rust affect SPS and does it cause algea in the tank?
