Where do you guys run your ALK

Where do you BB'ers run your alk at? (in DKH) I have been keeping mine around 7 Dkh, but I have heard that raising it gives you better growth, although it may have negitive long term effects,.. and I wanted to see what you do.

Thanks,
Whiskey

8-9 here but was at 12-13 at one point with no ill effects. The key is stability.

Wow, I expected to see numbers all over the place, but this seems to be unanamus. I will raise mine to 8.5 Dkh slowly, and strive to maintain between 8 and 9.

Thanks all,
Whiskey

Hey Now,

I think I remember Spanky saying something about keeping a dkh above 12 for a long period of time burns the sps and causes rtn. Can anyone confirm? In my tanks which are at the moment without sps...all LPS and softies I aim to keep them at 12 dkh. When I do my PH hits at 8.3-8.4 which supposedly promotes ideal conditions for calcification in stony corals.

That is what I was refering to as "negitive long term effects", Spanky is not the only one to talk about alk burn, but I have not had it happen to me personally.

Yeah exactly! So to be safe it is most likely best not to push the alk for sps. Especially if it has happened to more than one person.

I keep mine between 7-8 dkh and have done so for some time now . Never any problems with growth or color.

I feel the closer you get to a nutrient poor enviroment the closer you should stay inline with NSW.
