Tunze on the floor?

I like to place the tunze's on the floor of my tank. I figure I can prop them on a small rock. The original directions said to have the propeller cover with the holes facing downward- I was thinking to turn the cover so the holes were upward...I'm feeling a little cheap and don't want to spend the money on the rock that you can buy and figure if its behind the tank rocks it wouldn't be seen anyway...has anyone done anything like this with their tunze? Do you think it would hurt the mechanism in any way?

no, you should be fine. the non-hole area on the cover is so that the Tunze does create vortexes from the surface as easily. if the Tunze was on the bottom i would put the non-hole area on the bottom also. just to keep the pumps work load as light as possible.
