But all the problems I have had I think this rock is done. A fresh new start would be nice. At least give me somethign good to work with.

IMO a good example of this can be found throughout nature. Look at the sand around a healthy SPS reef (Greg posted actual pictures of this several years back). The sand is clean and free of observable detritus. Now look at the sand in a low flow area. What you find here (to varying degrees) is a substrate full of crap, which looked very much like the DSB I had in my tank.

woow... That sand is not comparable with a sandbed in a tank. Its perfectly clean! I didn't knew that.
