Theory:In-tank "closed loop"

After finally winning the struggle with algae, I began to notice detritus an stuff building up....Normally have a tad thats easy to siphon, but this was building up everywhere....Dicovered that 2 of my Koralias had stopped running....Just dead....Even after a good scrubbing, they just dont turn....So for an unknown period of time, my BB has had less the half the flow it was supposed to have....

So since Im no longer a Koralia fan, Im thinking of goin closed loop....But....How to do so without draining and drilling the tank???

Im thinking of stashing a mag or other submersible pump, connected directly to a pvc spraybar (or other piping) all concealed behind and beneath my rock.....

This would certainly keep stuff off the bottom, but wouldnt do much for the top of the rock....

Any thoughts about how this would work out??closed loop

You could do an "over the rim" CLS. I use 2 Quiet one 2200 over the rim in my 55. Here is a link. I did not use the squid, but my setup works great.

It will work. If you have a place in your tank where you can hide the pump, you can plumb it anywhere you want to blow. Even the top of the rocks if you wanted. Bear in mind the heat that any pump is going to add to the tank when considering it but I don't find the heat a big issue for me. I was running a heater in Florida to keep my tank temp up where it needed to be.

You could run an "over the back" CLS but I don't care for them because when you turn them off, if you aren't careful, you have to to prime the pump again. Easier if you can hide the pump in the display and not have to worry about it. It just becomes a very very powerful powerhead.

You will have to prime it the first time but not after that because there is water in the pipes.

The only time I have to prime mine is if I do a large WC that brings the water below the intake or outlet. Most of the time, though, there is enough water in the pipes over the pump to start the system again.
