Skimmer's great! now make me one too.
I would run that becket on it's own pressure rated pump, something like a Iwaki70 at least. You won't believe what it will do then.

I would run the chiller and UV on one loop. UV then chiller ,you prolly could get away with a mag 9 or an iwaki 40 or the like

you guys are killin me ! right when i think i have it all figured out !! with the way i set it up you don't have to shut the chiller down , i just have to turn the valve off to the skimmer and the chiller still will have water going thru it . it doesn't take but just a crack of the valve to feed the chiller and the pump seems to feed both very easily . i will probally leave it this way for now , and if i feel differently once it is all set-up and running it will be easy enough to make the changes .

The issue is your splitting the output and therefor lowering the pressure at the beckett. Imagine taking your garden hoseand putting a Y on it. Now put a nozzle on one end and leave he other end open. Will the nozzle produce pressure? The question becomes is a MaK-5 split equal to a mak-4/iwaki 70 solo. The answer young Jedi, know you shall soon.

ah! but the answer is i'm not using the mak-5 at all, the pump is a little giant te-5.5-mdq-sc ! which even at 40' still puts out 540 g.p.h. . so its kind of like comparing apples and oranges . this pump is so strong that taking away alittle flow does not seem to effect it horribly , while i agree that i may be taking away from the skimmer i don't know that the pressure loss to the beckett is affected . like anything it can only flow so much air before any additional air supply or flow supply will be wasted .

weekend update - more work completed on the sump cabinet . just about finished , got some trim work to do and then paint it up ! by the way 90% of the wood used in the cabinet was from " dumpster diving and the plywood came from a big shipping box we had at work , and the doors came from a neighbor that was putting in new closet doors .

the big accomplishment of the weekend was drilling out the tank . first off hats off to those that drill them with a hand drill ! here is the set-up i put together , made a make shift rack , leveled the tank and then moved the drill press in position . after making sure the press was level i put a piece of wood on the press table , then cranked the table up till there was enough pressure to keep the wood in place ,this kept everything very stable . the speed was set at 230 r.p.m. . i know i probally went alittle overboard on the precautions but i was nervous enough about drilling 6 holes . every thing went perfect ! it took me about 90 minutes to drill all the holes with most of the time on set-up for each hole . i don't know why i waited so long to try this ! the bit ran me $56 and was bought locally . anyone know how many holes you can get out of one bit ?

the finished job !
i'm off work tomarrow and have a bunch things planned . finish up the cabinet . i am going to run the skimmer pump on 240 volts instead of 120 , so i am going to install a sub panel box , and run a new 120 volt circuit for the other stuff . next weekend i will get the tank resealed and get to work on the tank overflow . so much too do !!!!!!

Looks great! It is so nerve racking drilling glass, but every time I get done I think "that wasn't too bad", until the next time I have to do it.
Are you going to make overflows around some of those holes?

just alittle update . things have been real hecktic this past week so didn't get much done . i did get the new electrical circiuts run this week , and got the pump changed over to 240 volts . today i spent most of the day just doing some trim work and got most of the sump cabinet painted . i also managed to pick up the 7095 tunze multicontroller this week ! that was probally the most excitement of the week ! hopefully i will get some pics of the progress posted tomarrow , but they won't be too exciting .
jerel , those were a couple of beautiful queens i saw the other day , almost made me think of redoing everything .

this is a look at the end . it also an opening door for access. and when the pump is in its final spot it will be pulling air from the three vents in the lower right hand corner .
