taking the plunge...bb or bust :)

transfered most fish/corals to 90 while I slowly remove the 2"
s/b from the 180. Hope to complete the removal by sunday....

siphoning the sand out through a small hoze in the attempt to keep the disruption down as much as possible.... have 100 gallons ro/di pre-made and ready for hopfully 4 or 5 20 gallon at a time changes...

if its been in there that long and no algae problem i would just dunk and swish it in a rubbermade tub and put it back in . you may get some algae in the beginning but it will subside .

You'll have some shedding but you'll be fine. Just be prepared to siphon daily for the first few months. The best advice I can give you is to raise you lights or shorten your photo period. Most corals lost in the switch to BB are from excess lighting. Your bottom is now a mirror and your water will be cyrstal clear. Don't be afraid to feed either, even more so if you see your corals going light.

If youve got the fish and corals moved to another tank, AND have the new ASW to fill this tank up.......i wouldnt mess with any careful siphoning of the sand tp remove it................you dont want to reuse that water any way once youve disturbed that sandbed. Id get a 6 horse shop vac or a simple plastic dustpan and whip it out.

Put the rock back in and add new ASW.

just my $.02

good luck with the change : )

Cool

wow

ok...I must be crazy...
ive pulled out 75% of the s/b so far, swapped out about 100 gallons of
water and have noticed already that the 3 cloves that were left in look
amazing compared to just yesterday... since i m using more water than expected can I get by with ro/di water i only mixed UP yesterday or should i wait another day ??

side note to self:
stick to the plan...ive already thought of 3 or more other things id like to do now that im basically starting this tank over

i would say to go ahead and use the fresh mixed water . i don't think you'll have any problems as long as you keep the salinity close . i had the same problem when transfering every thing over ( short of water ) so i quickly mixed up some and used it as soon as the salt dissolved , its still better than using old stirred up water . as far as finding more things to change - now is the time , cause if you wait ' you will kick yourself in the hiny for waiting !
