Sump for BB, HELP!!

I have a 65 gal tank with CLM (dart pump) an horizontal overflow with 2 1.5" drains (I intend to use one primarily and the other for flood safety) I was wondering since my stand is somewhat small what is the smallest sump I could get away with? I was hoping to us a 18 gal tall (20x10x17) I am trying to plumb my skimmer (MRC-2) and the pump (gen x 55)that runs the skimmer all under my stand.
please help, I am out of ideas!

custom sumps are not an option

An 18 tall should work, but are you going to b able to get your skimmer high enough to drain back into it?

Not to hijack this thread but nice avatar Have you played with the new PM Injectors? I have one on my Bullet-2 and it literally takes 2 seconds to pull out the beckett foam head.

No I am hoping to play with it this week. I don't have the skimmer yet, but its the injector that made up my mind.

The avatar is bait for Noschwag, speak of PM skimmers bring him right out of the wood work.

Am I understanding this right? I thought if I just put the skimmer next to the sump with it plumbed up it would empty into it? Am I wrong?

does the skimmer have to be higher? if that is the case then I'm screwed

you would need to drill the sump for the skimmer outlet, but you still should be fine.

I spoke with PM about my bullet skimmer, as I wanted to use my new skimmer in sump. They stated you want as little back pressure on the output as possible so the skimmer should be higher than the water level in the sump. BUT I just pulled this from the MRC site:

Q:
Do MRC skimmers need the to be raised above the sump?

A:
No, in a typical setup, the skimmer can sit in the sump without being raised. We recommend that the water level in the sump not be above the water level in the skimmer. What this means is that you can run a water line of 10-12 inches in your sump without elevating a MR-2.

My Bullet-2 sits in sump but the bottom of the box is just above the water line in the sump.

So then I should be able to plumb my MRC-2 externally to my sump as long as the water inside the skimmer sections doesn't rise above 12 inches?

I read the MRC home page and thats what it said as stated above.

What are the best bubble traps?

does anyone know how to do the U tube mod to the MRC-2?
