So .. what is the best BB clean up crew?
I lost most of my clean up crew in the plastic tub basement reef.
Astreas, turbo, nassarious, cucumbers, and fire shrimp perished.
I have a few limpets and one turbo snail left I think.
What do you experienced BB reefers think I should buy for reef janitors?

I've got a mix, mostly ceriths and astreas as well, a couple of good algae eating fish ( mimic tang and foxface), and one zebra turbo, which mow down hair algae like nothing you've ever seen. Problem with zebra turbos is they can get big, like 6" or more, and you probably wouldnt need more than 1 or 2.

I agree with astreas and cerith snails. I would also get one fish that is good for algae.

I do not think a fish or snails will fix that. I would look at exporting waste issues.

pretty much everyone summed it up ! but i also agree that if your h.a. is growing that fast , you have nutrient problems .
a siphon hose and bucket can be your best friend !

AStreas and ceriths here as well. Thats it. The most crucial clean up crew I use is tanks set up so that I can permanently remove everything via positive flow to the skimmer. This is what gives full control of being able to feed whatever I want to whenever I want without paying the price. No amount of clean up crew critters could allow that luxury.

I have a starry blenny that eats algae pretty well and is kind of cool and small.

Is there a rule of thumb? # of snails per gallon?

I think margarita snails are more cold water, and usually they don't last long in our tanks.

sure, but none that I really trust. a lot of folks even say 1:1, which I think is pretty ludicrous. I keep about 20-30 snails in my 150 gallon tank, and it's plenty.
