Regal's Clean Tank :)

Hi Everyone, I am new to this forum and this is my first post. Dont bash me to much about my tank. It is very new and I dont take the best pictures.

Here is a little background on this tank:

Specs: Elos 70 Pool (55 gallon tank)
Elos Stand
Elos Sump
Elos NS 500 Protein Skimmer
Elos Aqua-Planet II (1X 250 Metal Halide, 4X 24w HO T5)
Eheim 1260 Return Pump (635 gph)
Vortech Gen 2 Powerhead (3000 gph)
Elos Osmo-Controller II (auto-topoff)
NO SAND
20-25 Pounds Live Rock

Live-Stock (current)
1X Red Sea Regal Angel
1X Hawaiian Potters Angel
1X Hawaiian Flame Angel
2X True Percula Clownfish
2X Harlequin Shrimp (Hymenocera Elegans)
1X True Hawaiian Harlequin Shrimp (Hymenocera Picta)
2X Caribbean Serpent Stars
20X Various Snails

Live-Stock (Planned)
Various Pre-Selected SPS
Various Pre-Selected LPS
Clams
Ricordeas

Now some information. This tank is the result of me being terribly unhappy with my last tank. Last year I setup a 240 gallon starfire reef tank. I went all the way on that tank. I used the newest Solaris LED Fixture (I hated it), Lifereef Filtration (skimmer, sump, etc.), and many other (what I thought were higher end products).

I stocked the tank with 4 angels, my current three and a large 6" Majestic Angel. Plus my BSJF, and a few wrasse. As for corals I had several SPS colonies, a few clams, and many LPS colonies.

After about 6 months I realized that I hated the tank. (not the livestock, just the equipment)
So I started searching for a system that would suit my needs. Then I found Elos. I fell in love with the quality of the equipment and the modern style of the tanks, stands, and lighting fixtures. So I made the down-size from a 240 to a 55. I brought over only 5 fish. My Regal Angel, Potters Angel, Flame Angel, and pair of clowns.
I am very fortunate to have angels that are not aggressive in the least. They have never fought and are doing extremely well in their new home. Also, these angels have never touched a coral in my tanks. They will not even eat my zoanthus. I know that they can change, but I keep them very well fed, and they just seem to be indifferent to clams and corals.

My Regal is my baby. She will eat from my or my girlfriends hand, and begs for food. She eats anything I feed her.

As for my plans, I just got my light in from Italy yesterday, so now I am ready to add some corals.

Welcome to TRT!!!

That is saying quite a bit to have gone from a 240 to an ELOS 55. It sounds like you have been through a lot of experiences in the process. How long was the 240 set up for?

The one big question I have is do you honestly feel that the ELOS setup is worth the high price you paid for it? I know of a couple of others who have these systems and swear by them as well, so I am just curious about your thoughts on it versus the cost of the 240 setup.

Of course pictures would be greatly appreciated.

Hi Aquawolf,

I had the 240 setup for around 8 months. As for the high price of the Elos systems. THEY ARE WORTH IT. Swapping to the Elos was the best decision I have made. The quality is simply outstanding.
I tried post many pictures and a few vids, but it said that I need to have at least 20 posts to do so.

My plans:

Over the next few months here is what I plan to do the the tank, and what I am considering.

IMO one of the biggest factors in keeping a tank healthy is Flow. And it is not only important to corals. Fish need good circulation as well. Currently in my tank I have approx. 3635 gph. I am turning the water volume over 66X per hour. I want more!!!!!!
I currently have a single vortech and the return pump. I plan on adding another Vortech. I run my vortech on Max. Power and plan on doing the same with the second one. So I will have 6635 gph and will have a turnover rate of 120X per hour. The vortech's have such a broad "stream", and are very gentle.

I may also add a fluidized media filter to the tank. Possibly to run carbon in.
The only other thing that I am considering is adding a remote deep sand bed. But, I am torn on wether or not to do this, as I am going to start dosing vodka next week.
As ideas or suggestions on what I could add to this system to enhance it?

Sounds like a good plan.

You are right about needing 20 posts in order to put pictures in the gallery, but you may be able to attach them to the post. I am sure you will get to 20 posts in no time on here though.

Here are a few pictures. I do not have many of the equipment, but I will take some this afternoon. I tend to focus more on my livestock
Sorry for the poor picture quality, I am not very good with the camera.

Great looking fish.

On post number 13, the picture you call my baby, are those starfish legs sticking out under the rock on the left of the photo? Is that the food source for your Harlequin Shrimp? Just curious.

You definitely need to take pictures of the equipment.

Those are serpent star legs. My Harleys will not eat them. I feed the harlequins, CCS, Linckia, and Fromia Stars. In the one video you can see the harlequins fighting with the serpents over a CCS.
